The first time I read OTR I was as a high school junior in 1992, not only did it spark my curiosity in the Beat Generation it sent me on a ques to learn as much as I could about the author. I have since re-read it several times with more and more knowledge about JK and his incessant and torturing quest to put words to the page. It is truly a story that is a snapshot of a particular time where the adventurous spirit could hitch hike their way across the country and its boarders for months and months with little to no money in their pockets. It's manic and cumbersome, sloppy and stressful and strange....but truly epic and fantastically aspirational, to a reader who knows full-well it could not be repeated. OTR was the catalyst for my love story with Beat literature.
