Great book for the WWII Navy reader
Justin K. - 6 years 4 months agoIan Toll is an excellent author. I had high expectations after reading Six Frigates, and this one fulfilled them. Pacific Crucible starts with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, covers the Battle of Coral Sea and ends with Midway. The book provides plenty of context for each event, as well as, perspectives from all sides and what lead up to the event. In addition to these major events, the book provides loads of background on the U.S. and Japanese navies, as well as cultural sentiment of the time. Tolls style of writing is very easy to read and provides all the necessary details for the WWII novice to jump right in and embark on their new adventure. Can't wait to read the second and third installments.
