The word "Brilliant" seemed a fitting adjective for Preacher's plot, not only because it is indeed a brilliant comic book--with one of the most unique and winding plots in comic book history--but also because I hear English and Irish folks use the word a lot, and Preacher (despite its Americana-inspired flare) is very much one of those brilliant British contributions that happened to comic books during the 1990s. Written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Steve Dillon (w/ covers by Glenn Fabry), Preacher is now also a successful TV series on AMC (that does well to capture the book's themes & characters--if not its exact story). Preacher, sadly, was also in the news recently because of the untimely death of Steve Dillon. Also widely known for his tremendous work on the Punisher, Dillon will be missed. In conclusion, pick up the first volume of this cult classic (needs to be read sequentially), because it's a dang-near flawless story, and truly stands above the rest. Disclaimer: Preacher is a book for adults, containing sex, violence, profanity, and more than its fair share of blasphemy.
