Chrissy T. - 5 years 6 months agoI really enjoyed this installment of the Throne of Glass series, but I almost feel like the ending wasn’t as climactic as I would have hoped. (Spoilers ahead!) The whole series up to this point had been building up to the freeing of magic and the destruction of the tower, and up to that point, I feel like there was a lot of drawn out moments where loose ends were tied up which could have been done a lot quicker than they were. I will admit that I stoped reading this book roughly half way through to read two new releases that came out after I had started this one, but I also feel like if I was true LT engrossed in the book, it wouldn’t have been that easy to put down for so long. But once I picked it back up, I think I finished it in about two days. The problem was that the whole first half just moved so slowly. The second half was all the action. But I think that some of the action didn’t quite get the attention it deserved. I think Maas could have done a James Bond Villain speech for the King of Adarlan right before he unleashed Dorian on Aelin. And his speech before his death could had more oomph behind it. I just felt it was too wishy-washy, which was very out of character for him. I really think his death left a lot to be desired, IF he is truly dead. I think it’s a bit too convenient that his body wasn’t found and that no one really verified that he was in fact dead. The man was controlling demons and magic. You really think he’s gone for good? Time will tell. If not for the sense of building and achievement that the second half of the book brought, I think I would have rated it 3/5, but because I really liked the second half, I shall give it 4/5.
