AN HBO(R) LIMITED SERIES STARRING AMY ADAMS

FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF GONE GIRL

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims--a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story--and survive this homecoming.

If you thought Gone Girl (another book by Gillian Flynn) was crazy, wait until you read Sharp Objects. Make sure you read this on an empty stomach, because even the butterflies' stomachs will be churning. Welcome to this twisted murder-mystery that will keep you reading until the dead of night. Personally, one of my favorites from Flynn. Heard a rumor that a TV miniseries is coming out soon. So be on the lookout!

  • Surprising psychological thriller

    Sara B. - 1 year 5 months ago

In Sharp Objects, Camille Preaker, a small-time Chicago reporter, is sent back to her tiny hometown to cover a disturbing case: the murders of two preteen girls. As she helps the police investigation and writes her story, she is forced to confront her own dark past and uncovers a disturbing family secret. Gillian Flynn has a knack for writing characters who are engaging, despite not being particularly likable. This was true of the characters in Gone Girl, and is also true in Sharp Objects. They are complex, though, and I think that's what keeps readers interested in them. She is also adept at twists, steering you in one direction and then sharply turning in another. Sharp Objects is sprinkled with surprises throughout and moves quickly, making it a fun and interesting read. If you like mysteries with a disturbing edge, you'll enjoy this book.

  • Reads like a dream, plays out like a nightmare.

When you pick up a Gillian Flynn novel, you are guaranteed three things - a strong though deeply troubled female lead, a twisted mystery, and some of the darkest themes imaginable. Of all Flynn's works, Sharp Objects is perhaps the darkest, and for me the most compelling. Not for the faint of heart, Sharp Objects catches you by the throat and won't let go. Every character is untrustworthy and despicable, every twist reeks havoc on your psyche, every chapter is more skin crawling than the last - but despite all of this, you will never want to put it down. You'll find yourself both disappointed and oddly relieved that it's such a quick read. More of a psychological thriller than a mystery, Sharp Objects is a great follow up for fans of Gone Girl, and for fans of books with a bite.

  • A Sharp Story About a Family's Jagged Edges

    Kristal L. - 5 years 5 months ago

From the author of the now-famous "Gone Girl", "Sharp Objects" delves deeply into the psyche of a dysfunctional family in a town where a string of murders is coming back after a long absence. The main character, a self-harmer who has left her hometown to become a reporter, is dragged back to the small town where her mother and sister still live and becomes embroiled in the investigation. Fans of "Gone Girl" should enjoy this one as well; those who found the characters of "Gone Girl" too unsympathetic may prefer the well-meaning Camille.

  • 5 Stars!!!

I have to give this book 5 stars. First, let me say this, I had a hard time getting through the first few pages of this book. I can't explain why, other than, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to be reading. However, that quickly changed as I was sucked into Camille's story. It's been years since Camille has been home. Unlucky for her (as a reporter) she is pulled back home on assignment to get the story of a murdered 10 yr old girl. Follow Camille as she uncovers truths and secrets about her town, her old friends from high school and her family. While you're at it, take a guess if you think you know who did it. It was a kicker of a surprise for me as I guessed WRONG. I'm hoping Gillian Flynn writes more about Camille in a sequel. I'd love to see how's she healing
