To start, this book has a well-written female lead. She struggles with who she is and you watch her grow and discover who she is. Also, it has a really cool space system in which the book takes place and it shows how far humans can go. This is a must read for any Sanderson fans. Lastly, Doomslug is the best!
HPB Staff ReviewThis book was the best! I loved it. Even though I don't really enjoy spaceships and those kinds of things, I really enjoyed this book, If you read this book, please enjoy! This book was funny, loveable, friendly, scary, sad, and the best book at the end. This is my favorite book and now I'm currently reading, Starsight: The Sequel to Skyward! #SummerReading
This was the first book I've read from Brandon Sanderson and let me say I wasn't disappointed. In this fantasy/ sci-fi book, the human race is now constantly fighting against Krell (alien race). They rely on pilots to keep the peace and here enters the main character, Spensa Nightshade aka Spin. Spensa dreams of becoming a pilot but the lingering aftereffects of her father's shameful name have left her virtually homeless and hopeless. She journeys to find out what exactly went wrong and to fight for humankind. Spensa is an interesting character, she's bitter over the way humanity has treated her and her father. They unfairly judge her based on her father's actions and try to stop her from becoming a pilot. Spensa is short tempered and has strong opinions about most everything. But she's also fiercely loyal and dedicated to her planet. What I like about this book is that she matures as a character and has a character arc that isn't rushed. It's also filled with a good dose of humor. If you can get through the start, which admittedly a little slow and takes time to introduce the characters. You'll find that this is an enjoyable read. #SummerReading
I loved this book! This is my favorite book I have ever read. The characters were great. The setting was cool and unique. Great friendships and relationships. Little to no romance. I would recommend this if like school settings, friends, funny talking space ships, and great character development!
First off I just want to say that Bradon Sanderson is a masterful storyteller whether he is writing adult fiction or a genre for a younger audience. Skyward was my introduction to his work and I loved it so much that I went on to buy everything else he's written as well. The characters are richly written and the scenes are so crisp and clear that you feel like you are right there with Spin and Mbot as they soar through the sky battling the alien enemy bent on their destruction. Thankfully anyone reading this wont have to wait for the second book since Starsight is already out and though I've just started it it feels like just as promising a read as the rest of his work. This is a good thing because the cliffhanger was a killer.
