Overview

"Robbins's comic philosophical musings reveal a flamboyant genius."--People

Still Life with Woodpecker is a sort of a love story that takes place inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It reveals the purpose of the moon, explains the difference between criminals and outlaws, examines the conflict between social activism and romantic individualism, and paints a portrait of contemporary society that includes powerful Arabs, exiled royalty, and pregnant cheerleaders. It also deals with the problem of redheads.

  • Philosophical Love Story

    Julie C. - 4 years 5 months ago

Want to lose yourself in a most unusual love story? Then read Still Life With Woodpecker by Tom Robbins. Princess Leigh-Cheri, an environmentalist, and Bernard, an outlaw, fall in love during an activist conference in Hawaii. Throughout the book, Robbins philosophizes on the nature of love, just one path of the "Great Mystery," and explores the question "how to make love stay." Robbins claims love is the ultimate outlaw, it does what it wants and cannot be contained. This book makes me laugh, cry and think in a most unusual way. It's funny, sexy and overall a great summer read.
