Overview

The #1 New York Times Bestseller, now a major motion picture starring Chlo Grace Moretz

The Passage meets Ender's Game in the first book in an epic series by award-winning author Rick Yancey.

"Remarkable, not-to-be-missed-under-any-circumstances."--Entertainment Weekly

"A modern sci-fi masterpiece . . ."--USAToday.com

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother--or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

I really enjoyed this book along with the entire series. I could not put down as it kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through it. I could not wait to start the next book after I finished this one, it has body-snatching aliens in it. It's all around a good read.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what is so great about this book. It has slight reminiscences of Ender's Game, The Walking Dead, and Falling Skies, but it is a book all it's own. The writing style is probably the key to this book's greatness. Rick Yancey has a unique way of getting into the minds of each of his characters and presenting them in such a believable, smooth way that it feels like we ARE them. We get the history of the characters and the invasion slowly but effectively throughout the book. He integrates these parts in such a way that things are never confusing but instead are more meaningful and personal to the reader. It proves to create a well-rounded, surprisingly tender and yet intense novel. We see the story from four different characters and with each one you get clues to help connect the dots. However, we never get the full picture until the characters do. There are so many twists and surprises in this book which you never see coming. The ending is so satisfying and yet leaves you wanting the sequel (Infinite Sea) immediately. There are so many gorgeous and haunting moments in this story that are so well-written, they leave you breathless and lost in thought. This is a beautiful story about survival in life and survival over death and loss. It is one that sticks with you and speaks to the heart while keeping an action-packed pace that pushes you through the book until suddenly it's done. This is one of my all-time favorite books and I highly recommend it to anyone over the age of 15. It's also set to be a movie in early 2016 and I would advise reading it first to get the full impact of the twists you get throughout the story.
