I was really disappointed in The Betrothed. I thought the love at first sight trope was so exhausting and Hollis was unlikable for most of the book. This was not the strong female protagonist I got in The Selection series, nor was it the convincing and dreamy romance that played out in those books. I wasn't looking for The Selection going into this book, but I was expecting the same caliber of writing, and this just really missed the mark. There were some really well-written scenes, but most of the book I couldn't suspend my disbelief and get caught up in the world. I wish I hadn't purchased the book to read it because I don't feel like my money was well-spent for the lack of joy I got out of reading it.
