A fun, wild detective romp through British literature!
Catherine C. - 6 years 1 month agoThis is a multi-genre work: detective fiction and fantasy, with a soupçon of monsters thrown in for extra flavor. It felt like it had everything and the kitchen sink! If you are a British literature buff, the book is for you, as Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, and Jane Eyre's Rochester are the main focus. Thursday Next, literary detective, is investigating stolen manuscripts and the murder of a minor character. In the parallel universe Fforde creates, time travel and text travel are both possible. And when Next's archnemesis invades her beloved Bronte novel, Next and Rochester need to save both Thornfield Hall and the story line. #SummerReading

Funny, complex, clever and wildly inventive
Valerie H. - 6 years 4 months agoThis is a mind-blowing entry into the genius of Jasper Fforde, and the introduction of the engaging Thursday Next. Equal parts fantasy, humor, mystery, thriller and history, you can read this 20 times and get something new each time. Fans of Christopher Moore, Douglas Adams, Tom Robbins and Robert Rankin will be well pleased.

Air not erie
Courtland S. - 6 years 6 months agoThe concept of The Eyre Affair comes off as a mash-up of the genres of science fiction, fantasy and mystery but manages to do so in a wonderfully comic manner. Based in an alternate world where cloning can be done at home and William Shakespeare is practically worshiped, the main character solves literary crimes and hunts down a half demon criminal and solves the problem of the Crimean war. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Seeing the sights at Wuthering Heights and other adventures

In a world where people literally travel into books as we do countries, Thursday tracks down everyone from forgery artists to murderers of classic literary characters. This book is an excellent read for anyone who enjoys mystery, sci-fi or just classic literature in general. Packed with references and quirky cameos from Emily Bronte to Charles Dickens, this book will make you laugh, think and want to revisit some old favorites to see them in a new light.
