I haven't read many books like The False Prince lately. It was a breath of fresh air among other less-than-satisfying YA fantasy that I've come across lately. With a surprising lack of dragons and dystopian wastelands, the story is adventure peppered with secret plots and hidden identities. The main character, Sage, is a witty orphan who always seems to stay one step ahead of the reader. The author doesn't stray away from violence or the dark motives of its antagonists. Although predictable at times, Sage's adventure grabbed my interest early and has since hooked me for the rest of the trilogy.
HPB Staff ReviewFrom the moment you read the opening paragraph you are transported into a world of daring escapes, political plots, and plot twists so quick you get whiplash. The False Prince is the first in the Ascendance Trilogy and it a hell of a way to start off. Sage is everything you could want in the main character; he's witty and smart, but also conscious of the repercussions of his actions. It's about outplaying people at their own games and reclaiming what is yours. The ending is surprising, to say the least, and the sequel picks up right at the perfect start. The False Prince is the perfect book for fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events or even Harry Potter.
