The Giver is an outstanding book that makes you question society in its roles and rules. It gets you thinking about why you do certain things, even why a society might do certain things. Such a passionate read! #BannedBook
A short book but packs a big punch. I am actually surprised this book was a banned book. There is a lot to think about while reading this book and a lot to discuss. Doesn’t have the action that a lot of newer YA dystopian books have but it is very thought provoking and the ending leaves you wanting more. #BannedBook
This book is a stunning dystopian piece. Lowry rights in such a way that really gets you thinking and wondering how easy it would be for our world today to become similar to that in the story. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would recommend to someone looking for something different. #BannedBook
I've seen and read my fair share of Dystopian novels/media - but very few have both the lasting impact and staying power that The Giver does. A pioneer in the YA Dystopia genre, The Giver has excellent world building and character writing. Despite its brevity, Lowry paints a clear picture of the world in the reader's mind.
I've always loved Lowry's novels and stories. She is a vivid, engaging writer and The Giver does not disappoint. Based on a utopian society that has revised their entire culture in an attempt to take away any aspect that they view as negative, it keeps the reader on their seat the entire time. As you read, you are literally compelled to relate to and identify with the main character. You cheer him on and want him to 'win' throughout the entire story. And the ending is so good...this is a great read from beginning to end. I highly recommend it! #BannedBook
