The Heir continues the story from the original Selection trilogy. In this story, Princess Eadlyn is the first woman to be given a selection - finding a partner through the process like that of a reality show - in order to appease her people. The hierarchical caste system from the first trilogy was integrated, but there is still discrimination going on based on the previous sociological structure. Eady has to deal with the country not understanding her motivations for ruling and the people not being excited about her taking over as Queen. Her idea is to not end up with a husband at all, but that will take some maneuvering. It's a wonderful story that makes you think and feel for the characters. Also, a good number of the characters from the first three books are surrounding Eady, and it's fun to see them all grown up with families of their own. It's a fun read, but also has some great philosophical quandaries.
