  • Originated the comedy caper genre

    Derek F. - 7 years 11 months ago

Westlake is one of the best writers of crime fiction of the 20th Century. He nearly single-handedly established the tropes of the heist in crime fiction between his gritty Parker novels (which he wrote as "Richard Stark") and the Dortmunder novels, of which The Hot Rock is the first. This novel tells the story of a group of professional thieves who have to execute five different heists in order to steal the same gem over and over with each caper becoming more and more outrageous. Hilarious, clever, and highly recommended.
