Overview

The bestselling landmark account of the first emergence of the Ebola virus.

Soon to be a mini-series drama starring Julianna Margulies, Topher Grace, Liam Cunningham, James D'Arcy, and Noah Emmerich on National Geographic.

A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic "hot" virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their "crashes" into the human race. Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction.

  • The scariest things we cannot see

The Hot Zone is an intense read. It's all about the discovery and potential outbreak of an unknown branch of an Ebola Virus. It starts off with the story of a man who was infected with Ebola and the damage it does to the human body in graphic detail. From then on we are introduced to various scientists and experts in the field as they begin to work on known cases of Ebola, learning about it, how it spreads, what can be done to prevent it, etc. This is when they find out that Monkeys in a research facility in Virginia are dying off rapidly, showing the same effects as Ebola. It is now up to them to wipe out the Virus before it spreads to humans and wipes the nation out. This is a true story, with some sensationalized liberties. It is not for the faint of heart, it can get into the really nasty detail. However it is an absolutely amazing read, I finished it in 4 days. It was excellent.

I would not consider the condition as “unread” but I am still extremely pleased.
