Favorite Childhood book
Christine B. - 6 years agoLooking back, there was one novel that sparked my love of reading. That novel was house of the scorpion. It's a novel about friendship, survival and hope in a world run by drug lords. This novel hits a lot of heavy subjects on social, political and ethical issues. It sparked my love for science-fiction and learning things from other points of view.

House of Scorpion stays with you forever!
Monica G. - 6 years 4 months agoThis book has changed my life! I think this is a rather unique story that has not been told (as I know of yet) and I deeply enjoy how it ties in cloning, cartels, a family feud, and the innocence of a young boy who knows no reason as to why he is hated by his family. The book is narrated by the point of view of a boy who was cloned and birthed from a cow. He was raised by a kind hearted servant who wanted to shield him as long as possible from the truth of his birth and the reason for his isolation until he arrived to the House. Its interesting how the book is divided by ages as each stage in his life, Mateo confronts new challenges and learns how to be human. The only thing I dislike about this book is that in the middle there is a bit of a stop but otherwise the book is amazing. Nancy Farmer did a great job! I recommend this book to anyone who wants a new spin to cloning and cartels. #SummerReading

Throughout the book, you experience the pain, confusion, and rebellion of a clone who refuses to be put down and torn apart to extend the life of a drug lord dictator. You will be questioning what little we know about cloning--is it ethical? Should it be legal? Have we gone too far in playing God?
