Overview

From the author of The Bride Test comes a romance novel hailed as one of The Washington Post's 50 Notable Works of Fiction in 2018 and one of Amazon's Top 100 Books of 2018

"This is such a fun read and it's also quite original and sexy and sensitive."--Roxane Gay, New York Times bestselling author

"Hoang's writing bursts from the page."--Buzzfeed

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there's not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases--a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn't help that Stella has Asperger's and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice--with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can't afford to turn down Stella's offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan--from foreplay to more-than-missionary position...

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but crave all of the other things he's making her feel. Their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic...

  • A must read!

I am a sucker for romance and this book hit all the right spots! It is definitely not over-hyped. The characters are realistic and whole, and the romance is a perfect balance of realistic and spicy! #springpicks

  • Sexy book offers new perspective

    Monica D. - 5 years 6 months ago

I really enjoyed this book because of the perspective of the main character. It was interesting to see things in the eyes of someone who is on the spectrum and support authors who bring that perspective. Also, what a hot book! Haha very sexy! #SpringPicks

  • Steamy, But a Bit Contrived

    Jennifer C. - 6 years 2 months ago

I was surprised by how steamy and graphic the sexy scenes were in this book. I was blushing something fierce. The premise is a bit contrived, like a gender reversed version of the movie Pretty Woman with algorithm research for optimal romance. I have a few friends on the Autism/Aspergers spectrum. I appreciated that the main female character provides a mostly positive and successful, if complicated model of a person on the spectrum. As in many rom-com stories, the reader needs to be able to suspend a bit of disbelief for maximum enjoyment.

  • An absolute gem

    Brittany N. - 6 years 4 months ago

This book is smart, funny, and Sexy with a capital S. There is so much to love about this book. The heroine is a woman on the autism spectrum working in STEM. The hero is strong, sensitive, and his biracial identity gives us a beautiful look into Vietnamese culture. I'd shout it from the rooftops if I could: We NEED diverse romance. This book really fulfills that need. The heroine feels pressure to have a relationship and children and the hero needs money to take care of his family. So she hires him as an escort to give her "lessons" on how to make this happen. Talk about a meet-cute. This was a wonderful debut and I can't wait to keep reading Hoang's work.

  • Great Fleeting Read

This was a fun and quick read! I love the dynamic of the characters, the romance. It was real, it showed not just the 50 shades type of passion, but the realness, I definitely got 2nd hand embarrassment during some moments! I have not read a character like the main character in the book before, so unique and enjoyed reading through her perspective (and his)! Perfect summer read or plane read!
