Brutal and Absolutely Riveting First Novel
Jerry S. - 6 years 4 months ago#SummerReading Wow, what a wild ride this novel was. Only Stephen King can make a walking competition as engrossing as he did here, it was actually quite a riveting yarn and I heartily recommend it to anyone interested in horror, thrillers, and Stephen King. It is also fascinating that he wrote this at quite a young age, his freshman year of college if I recall correctly. What a great start to an extremely productive career.

Allie V. - 6 years 4 months agoOf course it’s amazing; it’s Stephen king. A walk to the death? Never doubt that Stephen king can make something so suspenseful out of something so simple. Not to mention that the day I went to look for the book, was the exact day that HPB received it into inventory.

Excellent read, with one personal gripe.
Nethaniel W. - 6 years 5 months agoI found this book to be exciting. The characters are well developed, and at times (at least for me) you feel like your in there place with the descriptions. I'm assuming you know the premise of the story, so I won't go over that. During the walk, you learn a lot about the main group of characters without having to go very far into there whole history. The way they talk and interact with other walkers actually provides a lot of information. There is good character development that's not boring. At a couple points, something is mentioned that raises curiosity, and only later on in the novel is it answered. For example, one walker has a scar on his face. It's brought up, and only after several chapters do you actually learn what happened. It's location in the story actually fits, and I felt satisfied after learning the history of it. In terms of the pace, it's spot on. At not point did it seem too fast or slow. The conclusion doesn't feel drawn out, however it seemed as if Mr. King was unsure how to exactly to end the event. This is both my gripe, and the reason I knocked one star off. I won't go further into it as not to spoil anything for any new readers.

Great Book
Henry F. - 6 years 5 months agoThis is by far my favorite King book. It has a great pace to it, and the characters are fascinating. Highly recommend for anyone who likes King or is just looking for a good read.
