    In the sequel to Lev Grossman's best-selling The Magicians, Quentin Coldwater and his magician comrades are ruling the magical world of Fillory. However, with Quentin never being satisfied with what he has, he longs for adventure and goes on a search for one of Fillory's mystical Questing Beasts. When he eventually catches up to one, though, its quest is even more than he was bargaining for: magic as they know it is about to run out, unless Quentin can find the seven golden keys and wind up the world. Quentin and his friends - Eliot, Janet and Julia - are as wonderfully unlikeable as ever, and their adventures feel so different than traditional fantasy fare. There is no ultimate baddie that needs to be conquered, and the magic in this world is so complex and deep that you can't help but think, "Yeah, that's exactly how magic SHOULD be." The Magicians series is a wonderful alternative to those who are tired of epic fantasy and want their wizards more grounded in reality.
