A handsome, leather bound, gold gilt, "Albion" edition of The Poetical Works of Lord Byron. This particular edition has gold embossed stamp on the back board, from the personal library of George Howard Wilkinson (1833-1911), who "was Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church from 1904 until his death." (Wikipedia) While undated, there is an ink written date of 1887 on the front end page. The front board also has a gold embossed Latin phrase "laborare est orare" or "to work is to pray." The embossing also states "Board of Education For Religious Instruction" and "Deanery of Pydar," an area in North Cornwall within the Diocese of Truro, which is where Wilkinson was a Bishop from 1883-1891 before going to St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane 1893–1907. A unique edition apparently worthy to be included in the library of the highly esteemed can now be yours too. Leather boards, gold gilt embossed and edge pages. Light bumping. Front hinge beginning to split at head.
