The vampire hero of Anne Rice's enthralling novel is a creature of the darkest and richest imagination. His is a mesmerizing story--passionate, complex, and thrilling.

Praise for The Vampire Lestat

"Fiercely ambitious, nothing less than a complete unnatural history of vampires."--The Village Voice

"Brilliant . . . its undead characters are utterly alive."--The New York Times Book Review

  • An Intense Vampire Novel You Just Can't Put Down!

Anne Rice is most definitely one of my favorite authors. Her skills and talent as a writer surpass others in a way that I can only describe as brilliant. She describes her scenes in such detail, that I can easily picture any place, person, animal, or object in her books. She also has a way of always leaving you wanting more, while still answering most, if not all, of your questions that may have arisen during the story. It didn't take very long before I decided I must continue reading Anne Rice's books for as long as she is writing. "The Vampire Lestat" is the second novel in the Vampire Chronicles series. It tells the story of the main character, Lestat, through his eyes. The novel begins as a continuation of the first book, "Interview With The Vampire," taking place in 1984. As the story continues, Lestat flashes back to the time before he was "born into darkness," when he was still human in the 1780s; then it continues on throughout the book, in amazing detail, Lestat's story of how he came to be where he is in 1984 and what he does next. By the time I had finished "The Vampire Lestat," I was deeply satisfied with no questions left unanswered, and I had an attitude of excitement and impatience to start book three as soon as possible.

I came on this website looking for a book for a friend of mine in our book-club online. She was looking for a book hardcover OUT of print and it was under 10 years old. Could not find it ANYWHERE. She wanted it for her collection. So she asked us if anyone happens to know a place she can find it for her collection. NO ONE could think of a place. SO I was like MSG ME! I FOUND IT. Lo and behold HALF PRICE BOOKS ALWAYS HAS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. I ALWAYS turn to HPB before anywhere else when it comes to my book needs! So while I was on this site I had a lovely little gift card I had not used since Christmas. So i looked through the rare finds. Low and behold I found THIS book first edition. I bought it NOT for me but for my sister who LOVES not only Anne Rice as an AUTHOR but ANYTHING to do with Vampires! I was so excited that I honestly wanted to give it to her the moment it arrived! But I know I have to wait. Thankfully I only have until the 22nd of this month!

This is by far my favorite novel in the series. The language is old, yet modern. The opening paragraph in which Lestat describes himself to his audience makes my heart race every time.

Haven’t finished reading but so far the book has taken me away to another time and place. The only complaint I have is that sometimes I get a bit confused of who is talking cause the narrator switches, not a lot but I have to guess than realized you is talking after. The book is Amazing.
