1883. Thaniel Steepleton returns home to his tiny London apartment to find a gold pocket watch on his pillow. Six months later, the mysterious timepiece saves his life, drawing him away from a blast that destroys Scotland Yard. At last, he goes in search of its maker, Keita Mori, a kind, lonely immigrant from Japan. Although Mori seems harmless, a chain of unexplainable events soon suggests he must be hiding something. When Grace Carrow, an Oxford physicist, unwittingly interferes, Thaniel is torn between opposing loyalties.
The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is a sweeping, atmospheric narrative that takes the reader on an unexpected journey through Victorian London, Japan as its civil war crumbles long-standing traditions, and beyond. Blending historical events with dazzling flights of fancy, it opens doors to a strange and magical past.

Ordering process from HPB was good. Book itself was so boring. I waited forever to read this and the reviews were so good! I kept trying to keep reading and just couldn’t do it. Boring!
The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is a strange and whimsical story about love, friendship, and clockwork. It's beautifully written, with gorgeous and vivid world building, and characters that will latch onto your heart and never let go. More romance than adventure, the story navigates intricate paths to a surprising and satisfying conclusion. A genre-defying must-read.
HPB Staff Reviewwhen the mysterious gold pocket watch that Thaniel receives in the mail saves his life from a bombing, he goes in search of its maker, he finds Keita Mori, a watchmaker with incredible skill. But theres something strange about him aside from his clockwork creations. He gives 1800s London a fantastical air, and his most prized creation, a clockwork octopus steals the show. It is simply a book to fall into.
