  • In this case, the movie is better than the book.

I think it was an interesting film, Gary Cooper plays a career Army Officer, who in a sudden attack by Pancho Villa's Men in 1916, he was found hiding in a ditch and he wasn't accused of being a coward because the Colonel was a friend of Cooper's Father, also a career Army officer. Cooper is made the Awards officer for the punitive expedition into Mexico by his regiment. He takes charge of a group of Soldiers who performed heroic deeds in the battle and he tries to understand what makes men Heroes What he discovers is that in the heat of battle, any man can rise up to do heroic deeds, but in ordinary times, may not be so heroic. I had read the book and I wanted to see how they compared. The movie was better only because it was less brutal in detail.
