Amazing amazing amazing. That's how this book is. There's a lot to love in this book as it deftly provides strong characters in both of the main characters - making both of the protagonists intensely likeable and understandable. Aside from strong character development, the book has everything - female friendship, a journey to find oneself, humor, and a great (somewhat) enemies to lovers trope. I strongly recommend this book as your next great rom com for all ages. #SpringPicks
Oh my, I was definitely expecting romance when I picked this book up but reading it? I was caught up in such a whirlwind of emotions and wittiness, I just really wanted to go back into the pages of the genius that is this book and memorize all the totally awesome comebacks (for which I am terrible at coming up within reality). I plowed through this book, always on the edge of my seat for what happens next. If you're a fan of romance, comedies, and a whole lot of cheesy wit, this is DEFINITELY the book for you. It has definitely made my top three favorite romances :)
All’s fair in love and war but there are new rules for a new game board. Welcome to the era of social media, where all bets are off and anything goes! Thus ignites a foodie Twitter explosion: Swedish Irish neighborhood deli versus Big League Burger franchise. An emoji war 🧀 versus 🍔. Two high school nemeses set on “destroying each other in a virtual battlefield armed with memes and snark.” But contrary to the trajectory of tradition, “at some point, it stopped being a war and started being a game” with a recipe for romance! (If only all wars would do the same.) For a girl named Pepper, she’s pretty salty about losing; for a guy named Jack, he’s pretty bad at knowing when to hit the road. These “Cheese-Crossed Lovers” are mirror images of each other. Pepper has an estranged older sister; Jack has an eclipsing twin brother. Pepper has a blossoming friendship with a girl named Pooja; Jack’s ride or die is Paul. Pepper is captain of the swim team; Jack is unofficially captaining the diving team. Both are competing for best grilled cheese from an arguably identical recipe. And while they may not agree on anything else, “mac and cheese and cupcakes are the two most essential food groups.” Ingredients: First, add unresolved tension between twin siblings. Mix in mother/daughter codependency (not typically tackled in fiction). Layer with a diving board, public transportation and the opportunity to overcome anxiety. “Add chocolate chips, butter, flour, salt, cocoa powder, eggs, and more embarrassment than the body of a teenage girl can possibly contain, set the oven to a bazillion degrees, and set the whole damn thing on fire.”Will Jack and Pepper (Patricia)’s war result in a Jactricia truce and a Monster Cake ever after? A story that “feels like this whole thing has been a giant heap of Monster Cake from start to finish—good, but messier than either of us could’ve ever anticipated...Of all the unexpected recipes this ‘weird dessert brain’ of mine has ever come up with, I doubt I’ll ever create anything as perfect as the one right in this room...There you have it, folks. A fitting end to the cheesiest romance ever told, and a love we can all brie-lieve in.” Tweet Cute is a digital scrapbook of sorts, an epistolary novel in all its forms: text, app, Twitter posts, vlog, news article--as well as a recipe for shameless food porn that will leave readers salivating for the sequel recipe book with all the P&P Bake blogposts that ultimately reveal Pepper’s identity: Monster Cake, So Sorry Blondies, Rainy Day Pudding, Unicorn Ice Cream Bread, Help Me Hangover Cookies, Trash Talk Tarts, Kitchen Sink Macaroons, Swedish toscakaka, Fuck Your Midterms Meringue, Tailgate Trash Twinkies, A-Plus Angel Cake, Butter Luck Next Time Butter Cookies, High Dive Cream Pie, Acrophobia Apple Crisp, Midterm Moon Pies, Pop Quiz Cake Pops, Sex-Positive/Slutty Brownies, Pepper’s Crappy Crap Day Crinkle Cookies. And a secret ingredient (SPOILER: none other than sweet bell peppers, of course)! Pairs well with Jacqueline Davies’ Lemonade War for intermediate readers and Julie Buxbaum’s similar epistolary YA love story Tell Me Three Things. #SummerReading
Amazing! The kind of book you read in one sitting because you’re so invested. There’s some good plot twists that keep it from being too predictable, and the main characters are highly likable. Would easily recommend to anyone! #SummerReading
This was the CUTEST book ever! I loved it! It was very Romeo and Juliet, but it was definitely an original story. Pepper was smart and had Twitter comebacks for days. And Jack was super smart and funny. This was very entertaining and it had me hooked from the beginning. All of the characters in this book were awesome. And all of the conflicts were resolved by the end of the book which was great. This mentions so many good desserts and I really want some of that Monster Cake. #pepperjackforever :D #SummerReading
