This true story is so well written that I stayed up, way too late, night after night, reading it! She intermingled details about the POWs back and forth with details about their loved ones at home. I only wish I had read it sooner! #BannedBook
This is such a great book! It describes his ordeal with great detail and perspective. Frome the minute I started this book, I refused to put it down until I finished it. I've always loved history and learning about what people went through. Not only did it talk about his service but also what he had to endure in a Japanese POW camp. Overall this book was very interesting and held my attention throughout the book! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about what happened in Japanese POW camps. #SummerReading
Wow... I am still reeling from the end of this book. I don't usually read nonfiction, but I've been trying to read some of the books that have been on the current bestseller lists for over a year. This book definitely deserves every week that it has been on the list. Unbroken is an incredible story of a man whose dreams of being an Olympic gold medalist were sidetracked by World War II. He was sent off to war and after his plane went down, he became a POW in Japan. I can never even imagine some of the trials and tribulations he faced. I was particularly struck by the fact that it was love for his family that kept him going. He loved his family so much that he was willing to endure years of inhumane conditions, starvation and beating to get back to them. At times reading this book can be rough, but it is definitely worth it to get through to the end!
