Fantastic book. Really digs down and gets at the root of it. Tremendous healing is available through this.
I highly recommend this book. It was beautiful, provoking, insightful, and transformative. This is one of those books where I felt restored after reading it and I’m sure you will too even if you have no prior knowledge of the content. I feel more equipped to have difficult conversations with others and delve into the maps of our lives through the destinations that have deeply impacted us. I love the Biblical truth that was sprinkled onto each subject, as it was piercing but also delicate. The exterior wall someone puts up on display is only a fraction of their inner life/world. We all want to know and be known and Stringer makes that point very clear. Stringer addresses, explores, and weaves in the stories of men and women who’ve struggled with unwanted sexual behaviors. His incorporation of their stories and his research offers a smooth transition through sensitive issues. TW⚠️: Topics may be difficult to read, so please exercise caution if they’re triggering. The topics ranged from addiction, dysfunctional family systems, abandonment, trauma, sexual abuse, and the sex industry. At the end of almost every chapter, Strayer leads you into a time of reflection. Stringer wants us to understand how we got here, where is it that we come from, and where is it that we want to go. It is easy to get entrapped in the vicious cycle of our “core life experiences”. He emphasizes the need for a heart change while practically pursuing vulnerability through a supportive community. Instead of running away, run towards what you want to hide from, and rewrite your story. Fav quotes: “Empathy is the glue to human connection” “Your sexual behavior is unwanted because you intuitively know it does not bear the beauty you were made for. #BannedBook
It is an amazing book that gets to the heart of what fuels addiction.
