    Whales on Stilts is a humorous young adult adventure that pokes fun at the great adventure series of the 1930's. Lily is an observant kid in a world of clueless adults. When Lily discovers that her father's boss is planning to destroy her town with laser-enabled whales on stilts, it is up to her and her extraordinary friends to stop them. My daughter read this book first, and her constant giggling convinced me to read it too. Likewise, my husband had to ask what I was reading when I kept snickering. The hardest part about reading was staying focused on the page when I wanted to roll my eyes at some of the jokes. The book relies on the ludicrous for its humor, including over-the-top heroes and villains, adults with the naivet of toddlers, and some printing gimmicks, such as a footnote that lasts for seven pages.
