  • Alan Moore's classic Man of Steel tale finds new life in this handsome hardcover

    Alex B. - 2 years 1 month ago

Just prior to the first of DC's many universe-shattering reboots, Crisis on Infinite Earths, superstar writer Alan Moore was tasked with writing the "last" Superman story. Teaming with iconic Superman artist Curt Swan, Moore produced the two-part Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? The book opens with the framing device of Lois Lane being interviewed on the tenth anniversary of Superman's death. Lois goes on to recount the final confrontation between Superman (and his amazing friends) and the Legion of Doom, headed by a Brainiac-possessed Lex Luthor. All this is window dressing to tie up decades of Superman stories, weaving together old storylines, re-contextualizing 1950s-era silliness as mythic eschatology. Also included is Moore's collaboration with Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons in the Superman tale For the Man Who Has Everything, a wonderful and fitting addition to the Moore/Swan tale.
