Overview

The New York Times best-selling book exploring the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality.

In this "vital, necessary, and beautiful book" (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and "allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people' (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent any meaningful cross-racial dialogue. In this in-depth exploration, DiAngelo examines how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively.

  • A moronic diatribe

    Pickup C. - 5 years 1 month ago

The book arrived fast and in decent condition. Unfortunately, the writer has serious issues and the book is a giant black hole of idiocy. I wouldn’t recommend this book to ANYONE. It was a waste of my valuable time.

  • Great for White readers

    Ricardo A. - 6 years ago

Great for White audiences trying to gain foundational understanding to the lens of Race. A bit rudimentary for semi-conscious to conscious readers of color. #BannedBook

  • Great look

    ASHLIE B. - 6 years ago

I read this during the George Floyd protest so I could understand more about why the white race has racist attachments. I read it with an open mind and now truly understand why we are the way we are. Best wake up call of my life and now understanding how to be an antiracist. #BannedBook

  • How to get away from the good/bad binary

    Jacob S. - 6 years 3 months ago

I wish every white person who says they're not racist would read this. Then (or even before) every other white person should read it, too. The biggest takeaway is that most white people think they don't contribute to racism, because they are operating with a pro-white definition of it. This book gives a constructive way to define, recognize, and resist racism as it evolves to remain intact.

Fantastic. I’ve lent it to a friend and referred another to read it.
