The reinvention of Wonder Woman
Colin S. - 7 years 11 months agoI grew up reading tales of classical mythology. Years later, I rediscovered my love for the tales of Greek gods, goddesses, and heroes. I've seen and read modern interpretations of these stories with varying levels of enthusiasm and success. I've never considered myself a Wonder Woman fan. Yes, I've known the character for decades, but have never really given her much thought. I recently read that the character was created to promote bondage and female empowerment. Interesting, but not enough to get me to really consider that character in a new light. I then read the first graphic novel of the new 52's take on Wonder Woman. wow. Just wow. It recreates Wonder Woman as a spawn of Zeus (well, why not, it's not like Zeus didn't have a history of running around the world leaving babies in his wake. So here you have a recreation of an age-old character, and mixing in classical mythology, and doing both well. If this were a poker game, I'd be all-in, just waiting to see what the next cards were going to be, but pretty certain that if I just kept reading, that I'd end up a big winner. So far, I'm standing by that assessment.
