Overview

For the Fourth Edition, the editor collated the 1847 text with the two modern texts (Norton s William J. Sale collation and the Clarendon), and found a great number of variants, including accidentals. This discovery led to changes in the body of the Norton Critical Edition text that are explained in the preface. New to "Backgrounds and Contexts" are additional letters, a compositional chronology, related prose, and reviews of the 1847 text. "Criticism" collects five important assessments of Wuthering Heights, three of them new to the Fourth Edition, including Lin Haire-Sargeant s essay on film adaptations of the novel."

I haven't been able to find another book as beautifully written as this. Wonderfully told and woven together. #BannedBook

  • Classic Must Read

Very good book and I liked it a lot. It took me a long time to get through because of the language and I was getting the characters mixed up at first. It was really helpful to have a dictionary in the back of the book on the words that we don’t use in our language anymore. It is a classic book that I think everyone should read at least once. #SummerReading

  • When The Good Guys Just Aren't Good

    Emma S. - 6 years 1 month ago

Wuthering Heights is a dark and depressing descent into the depths of human selfishness and depravity. The characters are trapped in agony of their own making and instead of facing the consequences they inflict their wretchedness upon their loved ones. Many people revere this as one of the best novels in history, but the madness and infidelity displayed consistently through the book alienates the reader from the characters. Admittedly the themes are rather nuanced and artistic, but I cannot enjoy a book with protagonists that I hate. #SummerReading

This was one of my favorite books I read in high school. Every time I see a bare tree in the fog, I think of this book. #SummerReading
